Promptu Systems Corporation, today introduced ShoutOUT, the first voice—to—SMS application for iPhone users in the U.S.

ShoutOUT lets users dictate their text messages in natural language instead of typing on the iPhone's touch screen keypad, check the transcribed messages for errors and make corrections if necessary, and then send the SMS on to their intended recipients.

Promptu, based in Menlo Park, CA, creates multimodal talk—and—type mobile phone applications for consumers, carriers, handset providers, and travel and transportation companies.

Without question, text messaging has exploded in the consumer marketplace. More than 2.3 trillion text messages will be sent by next year, according to the Gartner Group.
